Visitors can join Dan Nied, internationally recognized expert in the art & science of Horology, for an up-close and personal tour of York Time Institute (By Appointment only). Lea

 We were excited to participate in the Explore York County "Have It Made Here" last year.   But no need to wait until next summer to tour York Time Institute!   


Visitors can join Dan Nied, internationally recognized expert in the art & science of Horology, for an up-close and personal tour of York Time Institute (By Appointment only). Learn about the rich horological history of York City and of the famous clockmakers and watchmakers who thrived here. Visitors will experience 21st century horological students in their learning spaces, working on timepieces with tools and equipment used hundreds of years ago by earlier generations of old-world craftsmen.


(Tours not available weekends, holidays, or during school breaks.)

We are PA State Approving Agency (SAA) approved for Veterans Educational Benefits.

 Veterans are welc

The York Time Institute is dedicated to preparing its students for entry into, and advancement in their practice of the art and science of Horology.


The school endeavors both to maintain long-established horological knowledge, and to encourage new frontiers of research.

Through our teaching of conservation, restoration, and repair techniques 

contemporary to period time pieces together with their modern improvements, this Institute prepares its students for successful careers using professional watchmaking and clockmaking skills.

Dan Nied is a master watch and clock maker, former Director of the NAWCC School of Horology, well known and respected in the United States and beyond.  He brings over five decades of experience in the field of Horological Conservation, Restoration and Repair.

OUR INSTITUTE


Designed to provide training 

in conservation, restoration, and 

repair of traditional and modern horological time-keeping devices,

 the York Time Institute was officially opened in the Fall of 2008. The 

Institute originated in a

19thCentury building on West 

Market Street in Historic York, PA

 that housed two additional

 watch makers in its 150-year history. 


The Horological Conservation, Restoration, and Repair Diploma Program is the premier offering of the Institute.  

York Time Institute is licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Private Licensed Schools.
